Eng. Rafat Hindi, discusses with Amazon Web Services AWS officials plans to expand its investments in Egypt
Eng. Rafat Hindi, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, held a meeting with Mr. Chris Erasmus, General Manager of Amazon Web Services AWS for the Middle East, North Africa and the United Arab Emirates, and Mr. Mohammed Shenwani, Director of Amazon Web Services AWS in the Middle East and North Africa, to discuss the company's plans to expand its investments in the Egyptian ICT sector and cooperation in the fields of cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
The meeting discussed the updates of AWS's plan to expand computer infrastructure projects in Egypt, allowing the provision of a range of AWS services within the Egyptian market, while discussing the executive steps and timetables for the implementation of these projects.
The meeting also witnessed a discussion of cooperation in the establishment of a specialized computer infrastructure designed to improve the creation and dissemination of artificial intelligence models, in order to support expansion efforts in the construction and development of artificial intelligence applications, local data centers within the Egyptian market and global markets and improving the efficiency of digital services provided within the Egyptian market.
During the meeting, Eng. Rafat Hindi stressed that the Egyptian state pays great attention to promoting investments in the fields of cloud computing, data centers and artificial intelligence, by working to provide a stimulating business environment for investments based on advanced digital infrastructure, supportive regulatory frameworks, and facilitating procedures for international companies, explaining that the expansion of cloud computing services is a key pillar to support the digital transformation process and building a digital economy based on innovation. He added that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is working to expand the provision of digital infrastructure and computer capabilities necessary to support artificial intelligence applications, thus enhancing efforts to develop innovative solutions that support various sectors.
For his part, Mr. Chris Erasmus, General Manager of Amazon Web Services AWS for the Middle East, North Africa and the United Arab Emirates, said: “The Egyptian market is of strategic importance for the company in the region, in light of the rapid growth in demand for digital services and solutions. He pointed out that Egypt is one of the fastest growing markets in terms of demand within the region, reflecting the great potential of the technology and digital transformation sector, and enhancing the company's interest in continuing to study expansion and investment opportunities in the Egyptian market.
The meeting was attended by Eng. Mahmoud Badawi, Assistant Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Digital Transformation Affairs, Eng. Saad Rushdy, Head of the Central Department of Resources and Technical Assistance, Supervisor of the Central Department of Technology Projects and Outsourcing at the Ministry, and a number of leaders of the Ministry and the company.
