Kaspersky Teams Up with INTERPOL to Protect Cybersecurity at Africa Cup of Nations
As part of INTERPOL’s Project Stadia, Kaspersky collaborated with INTERPOL to secure the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) football tournament, held in Morocco from December 2025 to January 2026. Kaspersky’s threat intelligence data supported Moroccan authorities in mitigating potential cyber risks targeting the event, its participants, and spectators.
Major sporting events naturally attract heightened attention from cybercriminals, who exploit fans’ enthusiasm for profit. Kaspersky has been actively contributing to the cybersecurity of major global sports competitions, providing intelligence to law enforcement agencies while educating fans on safe online practices.
To ensure a safer digital environment around AFCON, Kaspersky shared data with INTERPOL on multiple threats:
Compromised credentials: The Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence team identified over 2,116,000 compromised credentials of Moroccan users and resources on the dark web, exposed by infostealer malware designed to extract sensitive financial or login information.
Hacktivist activity: A rise in hacktivist attacks was detected in Morocco from September to December 2025, with around 300 reported messages highlighting DDoS attacks and website defacements targeting the country.
Scam websites: Fraudulent sites were discovered attempting to harvest user data and payment details by posing as AFCON ticket platforms or prize competitions.
“Major international events present lucrative targets for attackers seeking to exploit millions of fans through diverse scams,” said Yuliya Shlychkova, VP of Global Public Affairs at Kaspersky. “Collaboration between public and private sectors is essential to combat cybercrime and ensure safe experiences for event attendees. Kaspersky is proud to support INTERPOL in uniting stakeholders to safeguard global events.”
Kaspersky’s partnership with INTERPOL continues a positive momentum established during previous high-profile tournaments, including the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the 2025 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.
