HONOR and ARRI Join Forces to Bring Cinematic Image Science to Next-Generation Mobile Devices

HONOR, a leading AI device ecosystem company, has entered a strategic technical collaboration with ARRI, the world-renowned designer and manufacturer of professional camera technology for cinematic storytelling. This partnership aims to bring ARRI’s century-long expertise in cinematic image science into consumer mobile devices, bridging the gap between high-end filmmaking and next-generation content creation.

By combining HONOR’s advanced mobile imaging capabilities with ARRI’s heritage in defining cinematic image quality, the collaboration seeks to unlock new creative possibilities and bring professional workflows to smartphone creators. James Li, CEO of HONOR, commented: “ARRI has defined the visual language of cinema for generations. Through this collaboration, we are bringing cinematic standards and professional workflows into mobile imaging, enabling creators to tell stories with greater authenticity and emotional depth.”

ARRI has shaped cinematic storytelling for over a century and has received 20 Scientific and Technical Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. David Bermbach, Managing Director at ARRI, noted: “Consumer smartphones are already being used on major film productions worldwide. Integrating ARRI Image Science directly into a consumer device represents a historic milestone.”

Translating ARRI Image Science into mobile technology involves adapting core cinematic principles—natural color reproduction, gentle highlight roll-off, and authentic depth perception—to the constraints of smartphones, including smaller sensors and integrated chipsets. Dr. Benedikt von Lindeiner, Vice President at ARRI, explained: “Our goal is to bring a true cinematic aesthetic to smartphone imaging, allowing creators to move seamlessly from mobile capture to professional post-production.”

The first demonstration of this collaboration will be featured in HONOR’s upcoming ROBOT PHONE later this year.
