Egypt Launches “Wa3i.net” Platform to Strengthen Digital Citizenship and Online Protection
Engineer Raafat Hindi, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, witnessed the launch of the “Wa3i.net” (www.wa3i.net) online platform for the Digital Citizenship and Online Protection Initiative. The launch coincided with Safer Internet Day in February and aims to support national efforts to build a safe digital society and empower all segments of society—particularly children and youth—to use technology safely and responsibly, while protecting them from digital risks and online threats.
“Wa3i.net” is considered one of the first comprehensive Arabic platforms dedicated to digital citizenship and online safety. It serves as an interactive knowledge hub offering specialized Arabic content tailored to various target groups, including children, adolescents, youth, parents, teachers, and senior citizens, with content categorized by age groups.
The platform works to enhance digital awareness, strengthen digital identity, develop critical thinking skills, manage digital risks, and protect personal data. It also equips families and educators with practical tools and knowledge to safeguard children in the digital space. In addition, the platform promotes a culture of digital citizenship, highlights available national support and assistance tools, and seeks to expand partnerships with local and international stakeholders and civil society organizations to ensure broad community outreach.
The launch event was attended by Sahar El-Sonbaty, Chairperson of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood; Natalia Winder Rossi, Representative of UNICEF in Egypt; and Chitose Noguchi, Resident Representative of UNDP in Egypt, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and civil society organizations.
