Egypt’s Housing Minister Chairs Tourism Development Authority Meeting to Boost Tourism Investment

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, chaired a meeting of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Tourism Development (GATD) to review ongoing work files and assess the progress of tourism development projects aimed at accelerating investment in the sector.

During the meeting, the board approved a package of measures designed to stimulate tourism investment. These include rescheduling installment payments owed by tourism development and investment companies, without affecting the deadlines of future installments, as part of the facilitation framework previously endorsed by the board.

The meeting also approved extending the grace period granted to tourism development companies that have obtained preliminary approvals and remain compliant with their financial obligations, enabling them to complete approval procedures and move forward with final land allocation steps.

Minister El-Sherbiny reaffirmed the government’s commitment to support serious investors in hotel projects, emphasizing the provision of all necessary incentives to increase hotel room capacity and strengthen Egypt’s tourism infrastructure.

The board reviewed the authority’s revenues from July 1, 2025, to January 20, 2026, which reached approximately EGP 4.689 billion, achieving 294% of the targeted revenues for the same period of the current fiscal year. The authority is also currently developing updated technical regulations and requirements to further enhance the tourism investment climate.

At the conclusion of the meeting, El-Sherbiny stressed the importance of continued coordination and intensified efforts to advance tourism investment and keep pace with developments across related sectors.
