Hany Talab: AI Is Transforming Accounting and Strengthening Egypt’s Economic Sustainability

Hany Talab, Legal Advisor, Certified Public Accountant, and Managing Partner at HT Accounting, affirmed that the accounting and auditing profession is undergoing an unprecedented historic transformation amid the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence technologies. His remarks came during his keynote address at the conference «The Future of the Accounting and Auditing Profession in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,» held today, Saturday, 22 November 2025, under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly. The event was inaugurated by Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk and organized by the Egyptian Institute of Accountants and Auditors (EIAA).

Talab emphasized that artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept but has become a strategic partner to accountants and auditors. AI, he noted, has significantly enhanced work quality and efficiency, strengthened compliance and transparency, reduced human error, and improved capabilities in managing and assessing financial risks. Its ability to analyze massive volumes of data within seconds, he added, has introduced a major leap in daily operations and strategic decision-making.

He explained that technological advancements have enabled the profession to shift from traditional sample-based audits to comprehensive examination of millions of transactions through big data analytics, greatly improving accuracy and effectiveness. Machine learning tools have also become essential in detecting anomalies and predicting potential risks.

Talab further highlighted that Egypt’s Vision 2030 places strong emphasis on digital transformation and sustainability. AI, he said, has emerged as a key enabler in enhancing transparency in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosures, supporting emission reduction goals, and advancing more sustainable supply chains. These developments, he added, reinforce the competitiveness of Egypt’s economy and help attract green investment.

He stressed that artificial intelligence does not signal the end of the accounting and auditing profession, but rather the beginning of a new era that requires advanced skills, adaptability, and continuous learning. According to Talab, the role of accountants and auditors is evolving to focus more on strategic analysis and decision-making instead of repetitive traditional tasks.

Talab also noted that this transformation presents several challenges, including data protection, ongoing software updates, capacity-building for professionals, questions surrounding the future of traditional roles, algorithmic bias, and the legal liability of intelligent systems. He called for the development of updated regulatory frameworks, enhanced professional standards, and the launch of comprehensive training programs to ensure that practitioners are fully equipped for the new landscape.

He concluded by emphasizing that embracing digital transformation and artificial intelligence is a strategic investment in the future of the profession. Success in the coming era, he said, will belong to institutions and individuals capable of integrating technology with professional expertise and ethical values.
