Madbouly Meets AngloGold Ashanti to Boost Investment in Sukari Gold Mine
Upon arriving in Johannesburg to lead Egypt’s delegation at the G20 Summit 2025 on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly met with senior executives of AngloGold Ashanti, the South African company investing in Egypt’s Sukari Gold Mine.
The meeting brought together Dr. Madbouly and Stuart Bailey, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs at AngloGold Ashanti, along with Eng. Hoda Mansour, Managing Director and Vice Chairperson of Sukari Gold Mining Company. The discussions were attended by Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador Ahmed Ali Sherif, Egypt’s Ambassador to South Africa.
Dr. Madbouly expressed his appreciation for the long-standing strategic partnership with AngloGold Ashanti, affirming the government’s commitment to supporting and closely following up on the company’s operations in Egypt. He noted his previous visit to the Sukari Gold Mine and highlighted his interest in receiving updates on current developments and production progress.
Bailey, in turn, conveyed the company’s gratitude for the Egyptian government’s support, emphasizing AngloGold Ashanti’s ambition to expand its exploration activities and increase its investments in Egypt, particularly in gold mining.
He also congratulated Egypt on the recent opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, describing it as a landmark achievement that reflects the state’s dedication to preserving its cultural heritage. Bailey added that AngloGold Ashanti intends to contribute to the promotion and sponsorship of this major cultural institution.
The meeting included extensive discussions on strengthening the company’s investments in Egypt and removing any potential obstacles hindering its activities in the mining sector. Dr. Madbouly reiterated the government’s keen interest in resolving any challenges facing the company, especially as Egypt seeks to expand its gold mining industry and attract new foreign investments into this promising sector.
The Prime Minister also expressed his readiness to welcome an AngloGold Ashanti delegation in Cairo to continue consultations and ensure a smooth pathway for the company’s upcoming projects.
Eng. Hoda Mansour reaffirmed the strong cooperation between the company and Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, emphasizing the joint commitment to facilitating the company’s operations and advancing its expansion plans within Egypt’s growing mining sector.
