Porsche Presents Wireless Charging Technology For Electric Cars, Debuts At Cayenne Electric 2025

Porsche has unveiled its new wireless charging system—dubbed Porsche Wireless Charging—for electric vehicles, now entering mass production with an output of 11 kW, comparable to traditional AC chargers. The technology was showcased at the IAA Mobility event in Munich (September 9–14, 2025) and will debut on the latest generation Cayenne Electric model, slated for release by the end of 2025. Buyers can opt to have the wireless charging system pre-installed.
This "one-box" system features a base plate (117 cm x 78 cm x 6 cm, weighing 50 kg) that’s installed in a garage, carport, or outdoor parking area. Users simply park their car over it, and inductive charging begins automatically. The system includes motion detection and foreign object sensors to stop charging if anything obstructs the connection.
Energy transfer works similarly to wireless smartphone chargers: a coil in the base plate emits a magnetic field, which is received by a coil underneath the vehicle. An ultra-wideband system helps guide the car into optimal position before charging starts.
A My Porsche app integration allows users to monitor the charging process and includes Surround View assistance for precise parking alignment.
The technology will roll out in Europe in 2026, eventually expanding to other global markets. Porsche claims the system achieves up to 90% charging efficiency
