Tuesday 29 July 2025 21:19

The Huawei Cloud North Africa Summit 2025 concluded successfully in Cairo, gathering over 600 government and business leaders, alongside key digital ecosystem partners from more than 10 countries. The summit served as a strategic platform to discuss the region's digital future and unlock new opportunities for development.

Among the high-profile attendees were Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population; Eng. Rafat Hindi, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Infrastructure; and leaders from ITIDA, NTI, and other national and regional digital transformation bodies. Huawei executives, including Jacqueline Shi, President of Global Marketing and Sales for Huawei Cloud; Shane Li, President of Huawei North Africa; and Felix Feng, President of Huawei Cloud North Africa, also took part.

Cloud Growth and AI Empowerment

Since its official launch in Egypt in 2024 as the first public cloud region in Egypt and North Africa, Huawei Cloud has achieved 140% year-on-year growth, supporting over 300 customers, 200 partners, and empowering 15,000+ developers to lead the region's intelligent transformation.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar highlighted Egypt’s investment in IT infrastructure, particularly in data centers, enabling secure storage and analysis of massive datasets—especially in sectors like healthcare and education.

Eng. Rafat Hindi, speaking on behalf of Minister Amr Talaat, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a Digital Egypt, focusing on developing local talent and partnering with global tech leaders like Huawei to strengthen cloud capabilities and digital services across all sectors.

Huawei’s Vision for Inclusive and Intelligent Cloud

In her keynote, Jacqueline Shi emphasized the role of AI-driven innovation in unlocking transformative growth for North Africa:

> “Huawei Cloud is committed to inclusive AI innovation—removing barriers and making powerful cloud and AI solutions universally accessible, cost-effective, and sector-smart. Our goal is to support the region in building an intelligent infrastructure that enables smarter industries.”

Shi also introduced the company’s strategic “5-Fold Inclusivity” vision, targeting digital inclusion across connectivity, e-government, education, energy, and public safety. By leveraging cutting-edge cloud and AI tools, Huawei aims to make technological advancement affordable, intelligent, and sustainable for all.

Sector-Focused AI Strategy

Felix Feng, President of Huawei Cloud North Africa, outlined three pillars of Huawei Cloud’s regional strategy:

1. Empowering customers to efficiently adopt, operate, and manage cloud environments.

2. Integrating global best practices—especially from China—with deep local understanding to create high-value industry solutions.

3. Delivering advanced computing infrastructure and AI development frameworks to help local enterprises lead in their respective sectors.

To meet growing demand, Joe Xu, CEO of Huawei Cloud Egypt, announced the launch of a new Availability Zone in Cairo by 2026, further strengthening local cloud infrastructure.

Joan Yong, VP of Global Solutions Sales, unveiled a portfolio of next-gen cloud innovations powered by AI, including ModelArts Studio (MaaS platform), GaussDB (high-performance smart database), CodeArts (secure DevSecOps development suite), and MetaStudio (a content creation engine).

Security, Flexibility & Local Development

Huawei Cloud Stack 8.5, a new version of the company’s hybrid cloud platform, was also introduced by Ho Hang, GM of Huawei Cloud Stack Global, offering over 120 localized cloud services and cutting-edge support for native cloud computing, data lakes, and AI.

“Cloud for Good” and Startups in Action

Continuing its "Cloud for Good" commitment, Huawei highlighted how its technologies are supporting sustainable development and local startups.

A standout example: Intella, an Egyptian startup developing the world’s most accurate Arabic speech-to-text engine, leveraged Huawei’s cloud credits, ASR tools, and ModelArts to accelerate training and deployment across 25 Arabic dialects.

Huawei also launched the “Egypt Developer Community”, aimed at integrating AI, 5G, cloud, and big data into university curricula, while offering soft skills training and freelancing fundamentals to broaden career opportunities.

Among the innovation success stories is "Manito", a mobile app that uses AI to translate hieroglyphics. After winning the 2024 Huawei Developers Competition, the app—now deployed in the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization—has seen rapid growth in users, revenue, and media coverage, thanks to Huawei Cloud’s support.

Looking Ahead

Huawei Cloud reaffirmed its commitment to building a smarter, more sustainable future through strategic collaborations, robust infrastructure, and inclusive innovation. The company aims to accelerate digital transformation across key sectors including education, government services, telecom infrastructure, and cybersecurity.
