Following a blockbuster launch for its first-ever SUV, Xiaomi is now facing a new challenge — a production bottleneck that will keep early buyers waiting for up to a full year to receive their new YU7 electric vehicle.

Just 3 minutes after Xiaomi launched the YU7 line of electric SUVs, it received more than 200,000 pre-orders, including 120,000 non-refundable deposits — a clear sign of serious buyer intent.

In the first few hours following the launch, the number of orders surpassed the brand’s current annual production capacity, underscoring the vehicle’s immediate popularity.

The momentum continued, with total pre-orders swelling to 289,000 within the first hour. By the 18-hour mark, Xiaomi confirmed that the number of locked-in orders had doubled to 240,000 — a staggering figure that highlights unprecedented consumer interest.

This surge in demand has resulted in long wait times for the eager buyers. A check of Xiaomi’s official website reveals the following estimated delivery timelines:

YU7: 56–59 weeks

YU7 Pro: 50–53 weeks

YU7 Max: 37–40 weeks

The overwhelming demand for the entry-level YU7, priced at CN¥253,800, has led to the longest lead time — stretching just over a year. The mid-range Pro (CN¥279,900) and top-tier Max (CN¥329,900) have slightly shorter, yet still significant, waiting periods.

To help buyers manage the financial commitment, Xiaomi is offering flexible installment plans ranging from 12 to 60 months, with down payments varying between 15% and 85% of the total cost. While Xiaomi is aggressively expanding its manufacturing capabilities — aiming for 350,000 units in 2025 — the current backlog represents a major logistical challenge and a test of customer patience.
