Saturday 28 June 2025 22:59

In a significant milestone reflecting its long-term commitment to the Egyptian market, Jumia, Africa’s leading e-commerce platform, has officially inaugurated its largest and most technologically advanced warehouse in Egypt. The state-of-the-art facility, located on the Suez Road, was opened in the presence of H.E. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt; Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology; and Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo.

Spanning more than 27,000 square meters, the new logistics hub is designed to enhance Jumia’s storage, distribution, and delivery operations across Egypt, with a special focus on improving service reach in Upper Egypt. The warehouse marks one of the company’s most substantial investments in Egypt to date, underscoring the country’s strategic importance as a digital and logistical gateway to the African continent.

Transforming E-commerce Logistics in Egypt

Equipped with cutting-edge smart storage and management technologies, the warehouse is positioned to significantly boost the speed and efficiency of order processing. It can accommodate tens of thousands of products across multiple categories and will serve as a central node in Jumia’s regional logistics network, supporting future expansion plans and reinforcing service reliability for both customers and sellers.

“This new facility is not only a leap forward in our logistics capabilities but also a clear statement of our belief in Egypt’s potential as a tech and e-commerce powerhouse,” said Mr. Abdel Latif Olama, CEO of Jumia Egypt. “We are proud to contribute to Egypt’s digital transformation journey while providing tailored solutions to local merchants and consumers.”

Government Endorsement of Private Sector Growth

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly commended Jumia’s growing footprint in the Egyptian market. He stated:
“We welcome this move by Jumia, which reflects the confidence of major international companies in Egypt’s investment climate. We look forward to more partnerships that align with our national goals of digital transformation, logistics development, and youth employment.”

The Prime Minister also toured the facility and met with Jumia’s local team, receiving an in-depth overview of the end-to-end e-commerce logistics process—from inbound shipment reception to final delivery—providing insights into the technology and efficiency driving Jumia’s operations.

Driving Jobs and Economic Inclusion

Jumia revealed that the facility is expected to generate up to 10,000 direct and indirect job opportunities across Egypt’s e-commerce value chain over the coming years. This expansion reinforces the company’s role in supporting the local economy, empowering youth, and boosting employment in the digital and logistics sectors.

Egypt: A Strategic Tech and Logistics Hub

Egypt is home to one of Jumia’s largest technology hubs in Africa, where a talented team of engineers and developers is driving innovation in digital commerce and smart logistics. This expansion strengthens Egypt’s role in Jumia’s pan-African operations and enables the development of scalable solutions that benefit markets across the continent.

During the event, Jumia Egypt CEO Abdel Latif Olama presented a comprehensive overview of the company’s achievements in Egypt and its broader strategy for regional growth, reiterating Egypt’s pivotal role as an operational and technological anchor for Jumia in Africa.

Part of a Continental Vision

The new warehouse is part of Jumia’s wider strategic infrastructure plan to expand its logistics footprint across Africa. Similar large-scale facilities have already been launched in key markets such as Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Morocco. These investments are core to Jumia’s mission of accelerating digital adoption, supporting economic development, and providing inclusive access to goods and services across the continent.
