The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) withdrew approximately EGP 609.74 billion in liquidity from banks operating in the local banking sector on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, as part of its monetary policy measures to manage liquidity levels and support financial stability.

The liquidity-absorption operation will remain in place for seven days, with the withdrawn funds scheduled to mature on October 27, 2026.

The CBE set a fixed interest rate of 19.50% for the operation.

The move is aimed at absorbing excess liquidity held by banks and limiting inflationary pressures in the domestic market. By managing surplus liquidity through available monetary policy tools, the central bank seeks to support economic recovery and contribute to maintaining price stability in the coming period.

The operation comes as part of the CBE’s broader efforts to regulate monetary conditions and maintain stability across the Egyptian economy.
