CARWIZ Enters Egypt With 12-Location Expansion Plan and Digital Car Rental Model
Global car rental brand CARWIZ is entering Egypt with an ambitious expansion plan that will take its services from Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh to 12 operating locations nationwide within two years, bringing another international franchise model into Egypt’s evolving mobility market.
CARWIZ Egypt will be operated by ECRAL, part of Elfahd Auto Group, under a partnership supported by Sigma Mobility, which holds regional franchise rights for the brand across a number of Middle East and African markets.
The launch combines CARWIZ’s international rental model with ECRAL’s three decades of local market experience, while Sigma Mobility provides the regional framework behind the expansion.
But the Egyptian operation is being built around more than conventional counter-based car rental. Digital bookings, international reservation platforms, fleet management and a broader range of corporate mobility services are central to the model.
12 Locations Within Two Years
CARWIZ Egypt is starting operations in East Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh, with plans to add a location in the New Administrative Capital and subsequently expand into Hurghada.
The company is targeting a total of 12 operating locations across Egypt over the next two years.
Rather than following a fixed rollout template, expansion will be based on demand across commercial, residential and tourism destinations, with fleet size and vehicle categories adjusted according to utilization patterns in each market.
That approach is particularly relevant in Egypt, where rental demand can differ significantly between Cairo’s corporate market and tourism destinations on the Red Sea and in South Sinai.
CARWIZ Egypt plans to offer between seven and eight main vehicle categories, ranging from economy and compact cars to mid-size vehicles, SUVs, family models and premium cars.
Digital Booking Becomes Part of the Expansion Strategy
Technology will play an important role in how CARWIZ builds its Egyptian operation.
A dedicated local website is expected to launch within around one month of the official opening, allowing customers to explore services and vehicle categories and make reservations directly.
The Egyptian operation will also tap into international online booking platforms already connected to the CARWIZ network, creating another route for tourists and international travelers to reserve vehicles before arriving in Egypt.
CARWIZ’s technology and operational systems will support reservations and fleet management, including vehicle selection and pickup and return arrangements.
For ECRAL, this creates an opportunity to combine its existing local operations with the digital distribution network of an international rental brand.
From Car Rental to Corporate Mobility
The partnership is also targeting a segment extending well beyond tourists and individual drivers.
ECRAL already provides short- and long-term rentals, chauffeur-driven vehicles, limousine services and corporate fleet rental and management.
Its corporate business serves organizations including Huawei, Schneider and Elsewedy, according to Elfahd Auto Group CEO Ibrahim Shehata.
Long-term corporate rental can provide companies with an alternative to purchasing and directly managing their own vehicle fleets, shifting maintenance, fleet availability and other operational responsibilities to the mobility provider.
Mennat Shehata, Vice Chairman of Elfahd Auto Group, said corporate customers represent one of ECRAL’s growth areas, covering vehicles for employees and executives alongside limousine and fleet-management services.
CARWIZ Brings Its Franchise Model to Egypt
CARWIZ International was established in Croatia in 2017, building on more than two decades of industry experience behind its founder and CEO Krešimir Dobrilović.
The company subsequently expanded internationally through a franchise model built around partnerships with operators that already understand their domestic markets.
ECRAL says joining CARWIZ connects the Egyptian company with an international network operating across more than 65 countries.
Dobrilović described Egypt as strategically important because of both its tourism industry and wider economy, with CARWIZ looking to establish a long-term business in the country rather than simply add another destination to its international network.
Sigma Mobility Builds a Regional Mobility Network
There is also a wider regional strategy behind the Egyptian launch.
Sigma Mobility CEO and Co-Founder Amr Fawzy said the company is developing a mobility ecosystem spanning 12 business segments rather than focusing exclusively on traditional car rental.
Those areas include vehicle rental and fleet management alongside smart, shared and electric mobility, supported by digital technologies.
Sigma Mobility is using its regional relationship with CARWIZ to expand the franchise across Middle Eastern and African markets, while relying on established local operators to execute the model in individual countries.
Co-Founder Ahmed Sultan Al Habtoor said the strategy combines CARWIZ’s international experience with local operating capabilities as the company develops its regional franchise network.
Egypt Becomes Part of a Wider Mobility Expansion
For Elfahd Auto Group, which has operated in Egypt for around 33 years, CARWIZ provides an international platform through which ECRAL can scale an existing rental and fleet-management business.
For CARWIZ, ECRAL offers something equally important: local infrastructure, existing corporate relationships and knowledge of a market where tourism, business travel and corporate fleet demand create very different mobility requirements.
The real test will therefore extend beyond opening 12 locations.
It will be whether CARWIZ Egypt can connect those physical locations with digital reservations, international booking channels and corporate fleet services closely enough to build a scalable mobility platform rather than another conventional car rental network.
