Mastercard and BVNK Launch Global Platform Integrating Fiat and Stablecoins via Unified API
First Fruits of the Acquisition: A Unified Financial Infrastructure
American payment technology giant Mastercard and UK-based stablecoin financial infrastructure provider BVNK have announced the launch of the "Mastercard Global Money Platform." This marks the first major integration of both companies' capabilities since Mastercard acquired BVNK in August 2026. The platform offers a unified Application Programming Interface (API) that enables banks, financial institutions, and fintech companies to integrate multi-currency accounts combining fiat and stablecoins.
Comprehensive Capabilities for Transfers and Card Issuance
The platform allows institutions to set up global multi-currency accounts to hold balances and perform real-time conversions between traditional and digital ecosystems. It also enables the issuance of stablecoin-linked payment cards spendable across Mastercard’s global acceptance network in over 130 countries, alongside flexible management of payments, treasury operations, and settlements—eliminating the need for multiple separate service providers.
Integration with "Mastercard Move" and Future Expansion
The new platform integrates directly with "Mastercard Move," allowing stablecoin balances to be converted and disbursed directly into local bank accounts. Looking ahead to 2027, coverage is expected to expand to support more than 40 currencies across over 200 countries and territories. Among the early adopters integrating the platform are prominent companies such as Nuvei, Marqeta, Ontop, Beam, and Almond Fintech.
Supporting Agentic Commerce and Tokenized Deposits
Designed as a flexible infrastructure layer, the platform aims to support the future of programmable commerce and transactions powered by AI agents, while preparing for additional regulated forms of money, including tokenized deposits. Leadership from both companies emphasized that the platform is built to facilitate seamless cross-border movement of value and increase flexibility between traditional and digital monetary systems for enterprises worldwide.
