Telecom Egypt Named North Africa’s Fastest Fixed Internet Provider in 2026
Telecom Egypt Wins Ookla Award for Fixed Internet Speed
Telecom Egypt has been named the fastest fixed internet service provider in North Africa for the first and second quarters of 2026 by Ookla, a global company specializing in internet speed measurement and network performance assessment.
The award was presented on the sidelines of Network X 2026, the global event focused on the future of telecommunications networks, taking place in Vienna, Austria, from October 13 to 15, 2026.
Ookla President and CEO Stephen Bye presented the award to Tamer El Mahdi, Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt.
The recognition was based on an analysis of user-initiated tests conducted through Ookla’s Speedtest application.
The award reflects Telecom Egypt’s continued investments and strategic efforts to develop digital infrastructure across the country, support Egypt’s digital transformation and contribute to the strategy of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
Five-Year Investment Plan Targets Fiber Expansion
As part of its new strategy and ongoing network modernization efforts, Telecom Egypt is implementing a major five-year investment plan covering the period from 2026 to 2030.
The plan aims to accelerate the transition from traditional copper networks to high-speed Fiber-to-the-Home, or FTTH, infrastructure.
The project targets the deployment of millions of new fiber connections, increasing network capacity while improving internet speeds, reliability and the overall quality of services provided to individuals and businesses across Egypt.
Network Upgrades to Support AI Expansion in Egypt
Telecom Egypt’s infrastructure development is also expected to provide a stronger foundation for the growing adoption of artificial intelligence applications in the country.
Higher-speed and more reliable connectivity can support data transmission and access to cloud computing services, helping businesses, entrepreneurs and research institutions develop and deploy innovative solutions across different sectors.
As AI adoption expands, network performance and reliability are becoming increasingly important for supporting data-intensive applications and enabling organizations to access the digital resources required to develop new technologies.
Tamer El Mahdi: Infrastructure Investment Strengthens Egypt’s Competitiveness
Commenting on the award, Tamer El Mahdi said the recognition demonstrates the tangible impact of Telecom Egypt’s network investments and reflects the direction of the company’s new strategy, which places customer experience and the development of digital capabilities needed for growth among its key priorities.
He said Telecom Egypt views infrastructure development as an investment in Egypt’s ability to innovate and compete, while expanding opportunities for individuals and businesses to benefit from the digital economy.
El Mahdi added that the company’s 2026–2030 investment plan will accelerate fiber deployment and convert millions of connections from copper to fiber, providing faster and more stable services while creating a network capable of meeting rapidly growing demand for data and digital services.
Telecom Egypt Links Fiber Investment With AI Development
El Mahdi also highlighted the importance of efficient and reliable connectivity as artificial intelligence adoption continues to expand.
He said Telecom Egypt’s investments are designed to provide the infrastructure needed to support AI applications, facilitate access to cloud computing and enable more efficient data exchange.
These capabilities are expected to help institutions and startups develop and adopt AI-powered solutions to deliver more innovative and efficient services.
Telecom Egypt ultimately aims to translate its leadership in internet services into tangible value for customers while creating broader opportunities for innovation and economic growth in Egypt.
