US Dollar Exchange Rates Stabilize Against the Egyptian Pound on Wednesday, August 12, 2026

The US Dollar (USD) maintained relative stability against the Egyptian Pound (EGP) at the start of trading on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, according to the latest updates from state-owned and private banks in Egypt.

Egyptians closely monitor the performance of the US dollar and other foreign currencies, as they are primary drivers of commodity prices in local markets, particularly for goods that rely heavily on imports.

Innovative Tax Mechanisms and Remittance Growth

In a related economic development, Egypt recently approved a proposal to issue tax sukuk funded by taxpayers. The value of these sukuk will be deducted from their future tax liabilities. This move, the first of its kind in Egypt's modern history, enables the state to collect its dues based on the factoring principle.

Meanwhile, remittances from Egyptian expatriates witnessed remarkable growth during the 2025-2026 fiscal year. Remittances surged by 33.2% during the first 10 months (from July 2025 to April 2026), reaching approximately $39.2 billion, compared to $29.4 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year.
