Central Bank of Syria Sets July 30, 2026, as Deadline to Replace Old Banknotes
The Central Bank of Syria has announced that the deadline for replacing old banknotes will officially end on July 30, 2026, following a highly successful completion rate during the initial replacement phase.
In a statement published on the X platform, the bank clarified that starting July 31, 2026, old banknotes will lose their legal tender status and will no longer be valid for circulation or any financial transactions.
The bank noted that the formal withdrawal phase for the old banknotes will commence on July 31, 2026, and will remain open for five years. However, this process will be executed exclusively through the Central Bank of Syria headquarters in Damascus, which will serve as the sole authorized center to receive withdrawal requests.
Conditions for Note Withdrawal
The Central Bank outlined specific conditions for submitting withdrawal requests during this five-year period:
A minimum of 100 banknotes of any denomination must be submitted per request.
Requests containing fewer than 100 notes will be outright rejected.
Upon verification and approval, the equivalent value will be transferred directly to the applicant's specified bank account in the New Syrian Lira.
The bank emphasized that the withdrawal and exchange process for the old banknotes will be conducted entirely free of charge, without the deduction of any commissions, fees, taxes, or additional expenses.
