Egypt Denies Rumors of Nightly Internet Blackouts to Conserve Electricity
The Egyptian Cabinet’s Media Center has issued a formal statement refuting widely circulated rumors regarding a government plan to cut internet services during the night to reduce electricity loads. Following direct coordination with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), the center confirmed that no such decisions or studies exist.
Authorities emphasized that telecommunication and internet services across the Republic remain fully operational and efficient. The statement clarified that internet connectivity is managed through rigorous technical plans aimed at ensuring service continuity and quality, independent of the ongoing electricity load-shedding measures implemented in response to regional and global developments. The NTRA urged social media users to verify information through official channels, warning that legal action may be taken against those spreading misinformation intended to cause public distress.
