Instagram Denies Data Breach, Confirms User Accounts Remain Secure

Instagram has confirmed that its users’ accounts have not been compromised, stressing that all user data remains fully secure, following reports suggesting a potential leak involving millions of accounts.

The company clarified that the incident was limited to a technical issue that allowed an external party to trigger password reset emails for some users, without constituting a breach of Instagram’s systems or any unauthorized access to user accounts.

Instagram stated that the issue has since been fully resolved, urging users to ignore password reset emails received recently if they did not personally request them.

Earlier cybersecurity reports had claimed the detection of an alleged data leak involving sensitive information of a large number of Instagram users, including usernames, email addresses, and phone numbers. The data was reportedly found on dark web platforms, with claims linking the incident to a previous exposure related to Instagram’s API.

Despite Instagram’s denial of any actual data breach, the incident has renewed concerns over data security and privacy on social media platforms, particularly given past challenges faced by the company’s parent organization in this area.
