Banking Sector Accounts for 10% of Total Trading Value on EGX During the Week

The banking sector captured 10 percent of the total trading value of listed sectors on the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) during the past week, ranking third among the most actively traded sectors in terms of value, according to weekly market data excluding block trades.

The real estate sector topped the list of main listed equity sectors, recording trading values of EGP 6.87 billion, accounting for 20.1 percent of the total sectoral trading value. Trading volumes in the sector reached 6.38 billion shares, executed through approximately 133,000 transactions.

The non-banking financial services sector ranked second, with total trading value of EGP 6.71 billion, representing 19.6 percent of overall sectoral turnover. The sector saw the exchange of 2.53 billion shares through around 96,130 transactions.

The banking sector came in third place, posting trading values of EGP 3.42 billion and accounting for 10 percent of total market turnover. Trading activity in the sector included 49.65 million shares, executed through approximately 27,060 transactions.

The food, beverages, and tobacco sector ranked fourth, with trading values amounting to EGP 3.0 billion, representing 9.1 percent of total sectoral trading. The sector recorded trading volumes of 888.97 million shares across about 86,920 transactions.

The telecommunications, media, and information technology sector followed in fifth place, also with trading values of around EGP 3.0 billion, accounting for 9.1 percent of total turnover. Trading volumes in the sector reached 1.19 billion shares, executed through approximately 46,720 transactions.

Overall, the figures highlight continued diversification in trading activity across sectors on the Egyptian Exchange, with real estate and financial services maintaining leading positions, while the banking sector continues to play a significant role in weekly market liquidity.
