Digitopia Hackathon Attracts Over 25,000 Participants to Develop Tech Solutions for Social and Economic Challenges

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has announced that more than 25,000 participants from across Egypt have joined the first phase of Digitopia, the nation’s largest hackathon, forming over 6,500 teams representing governorates nationwide.

Offering prizes worth EGP 10 million — including a grand award of up to EGP 1 million — Digitopia provides participants with not only financial incentives but also access to advanced training opportunities with leading global and local technology firms, as well as specialized skills development organizations.

Following the close of registration and idea submissions on August 31, competitors are now advancing through three primary tracks: software development and artificial intelligence, digital arts, and cybersecurity. Teams will present integrated projects with innovative prototypes designed to tackle key social and economic challenges.

Participants reflect Egypt’s broad talent pool, ranging from school pupils as young as 10 years old to university students, recent graduates, entrepreneurs, and startup founders up to the age of 35. More than 90 experts and specialists in innovation and digital technologies will serve as judges, evaluating projects throughout the competition.

Digitopia is organized under the supervision of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI), the Information Technology Institute (ITI), and Egypt University of Informatics (EUI). It is supported by major international and local partners, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Huawei Egypt, Cisco Egypt, Telecom Egypt, Vodafone Egypt, Orange Egypt, e& Egypt, ICT Misr, NextEra Education, WE Innovate, EYouth, and YAT Learning Solutions.

Launched in August 2025, Digitopia underscores MCIT’s strategy to build digital capacity, invest in human capital, and foster a culture of innovation, while identifying and empowering promising young talent across Egypt.
