Gold Prices Hold Steady in Egypt on Friday, August 22, 2025

Gold prices in Egypt remained stable on Friday across all carats, after retreating by around EGP 5 at the start of the day’s trading.
The local market prices stood as follows:
24-karat gold: EGP 5,177 per gram
21-karat gold: EGP 4,530 per gram
18-karat gold: EGP 3,882 per gram
Gold pound (sovereign): EGP 36,240
The stabilization comes after a recent decision by the U.S. Federal Reserve to keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged, holding steady between 4.25% and 4.50% during its fifth meeting this year. This marks the fifth consecutive meeting without a rate change since President Donald Trump took office in early 2025.
On Thursday, both local and global gold prices dipped amid a stronger U.S. dollar and rising Treasury yields, as markets awaited a speech from Fed Chair Jerome Powell.
The decision highlights growing tensions between President Trump, who has been pressing for rate cuts to stimulate the economy, and Powell, who continues to adopt a cautious stance.
