• The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development launches a platform for data on sustainable development goals in the governorates.

Tuesday 5 August 2025 23:06

As part of the Egyptian state's efforts to achieve sustainable development and promote evidence- and data-based decision-making, the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation launched the "Sustainable Development Goals Data Platform in Governorates." This interactive digital platform displays and analyzes Sustainable Development Goal indicators at the governorate level. It provides a comprehensive overview of the status of sustainable development in all Egyptian governorates at the UN goal level, and presents a complete picture

of the status of the Sustainable Development Goals at the performance indicators level in each governorate.

The platform provides a comprehensive and integrated overview of the status of sustainable development in all governorates of the Republic, enabling a review of performance against the UN Sustainable Development Goals, as well as a detailed assessment of performance indicators at the governorate level. The platform updates its data periodically to ensure that all relevant parties are provided with accurate and up-to-date information that supports informed, evidence-based decision-making and contributes to guiding development efforts according to local needs, thus promoting comprehensive and sustainable development at the national level.

This platform is an extension of the Sustainable Development Goals Localization Reports, two versions of which were issued by the Ministry: the first in 2021 in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the second in early 2025 in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The platform was developed based on official data from all national entities, most notably the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, to scientifically and systematically assess the status of sustainable development.

The "Sustainable Development Goals Data Platform in Governorates" monitors progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals at the governorate level and helps make effective decisions. It provides up-to-date data that helps decision-makers develop more effective policies. It also stimulates performance by highlighting local achievements and challenges to propel governorates toward achieving the UN goals.

The platform uses a methodology based on three main metrics to monitor each governorate's performance toward achieving its 2030 targets, as follows: Distance from the 2030 target: This measures the gap between the current situation and the governorate's 2030 target, in collaboration with the Egyptian Center for Public Opinion Research (Baseera).

Second, Targeted Annual Change: This reflects the annual percentage change in the index value—whether an increase or a decrease—necessary to achieve the governorate's target by 2030. In addition, the relative ranking among governorates determines each governorate's ranking among the 27 governorates in achieving the targeted indicators.
