10 Million Xiaomi Phones Annually: Inside Safy Group”s Expanding Electronics Manufacturing Hub

In a significant move underscoring Egypt’s push toward high-tech industrial localization, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, accompanied by Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir, conducted an extensive inspection on Thursday, June 19, 2025, of Safy Group’s flagship electronics manufacturing complex in 6th of October City.
The facility, operated by Safy Group, specializes in the production of cutting-edge telecommunications devices and medical equipment, and has quickly emerged as a cornerstone in Egypt’s strategy to reduce import dependency and foster technological self-sufficiency.
A High-Performance Factory With Strategic Vision
During the tour, Eng. Diaa El Shaarawy, Chief Operating Officer of Safy Group, revealed that the facility hosts 25 fully operational production lines, distributed across several vital sectors. These include:
Xiaomi smartphones: up to 10 million units annually
Television screens: 500,000 units per year
Internet routers: 2 million units per year
Surveillance cameras: 2 million units per year
Medical devices: 5,000 units per year
According to El Shaarawy, the factory’s production capacity is not only designed to meet local demand but also targets regional and international markets. He emphasized that the facility is built to global standards, with a rising share of locally sourced components, in line with Egypt’s industrial development goals.
Guided Tour Across Smart Lines and Clean Technology
The Prime Minister’s tour began at the television production area, where he first visited the sterilization room, a mandatory step to ensure industrial hygiene and occupational safety. Eng. Islam Adel, General Manager of the plant, then led the delegation through various stages of production.
Dr. Madbouly closely examined the TV motherboard assembly line, observing the precision work required for assembling and testing components. He also reviewed the router production line, which had only recently begun operation. Officials noted that a large batch of routers was already being prepared for delivery to one of Egypt’s major telecom operators.
As part of the tour, the Prime Minister inspected sample units of Xiaomi smart TVs, including models reaching up to 85 inches in size. The manufacturing process for these devices involves meticulous integration of sensitive electronic components that meet global specifications, blending both automated systems and manual quality assurance.
Smartphone Assembly: A Balance of Automation and Craftsmanship
The delegation proceeded to the upper floor of the facility, which is dedicated to Xiaomi smartphone assembly and testing. Adel highlighted the workflow, which combines advanced automation for assembly with manual testing procedures to ensure optimal functionality.
"Certain steps are fully automated, while others — particularly the final testing phase — require skilled human oversight," he explained.
This hybrid model enables the plant to maintain high output while preserving product quality, contributing to Egypt’s credibility as a manufacturing destination for global tech brands.
A Model for Egypt’s Industrial Future
At the end of the visit, Prime Minister Madbouly praised the progress achieved by Safy Group, describing the facility as “a leading example of how local industry can evolve into a global player.”
> “This factory showcases how Egyptian talent, supported by smart policies and the right investments, can lead in the production of complex technologies. The government stands ready to provide all necessary support to ensure future expansion,” he stated.
He further emphasized that such initiatives are essential to Egypt’s roadmap for industrial localization, reducing the import bill, and positioning the country as a regional hub for electronics manufacturing and smart technology.
