Amazon Egypt Rules Out Near-Term Drone Delivery Launch, Reveals EGP 29 Billion in Investments and 60,000 Jobs

Amazon Egypt is not planning to launch drone-based delivery services in the country in the near term, and has not disclosed specific plans to establish local data centers, Omar El-Sahy, the company's General Manager in Egypt, said.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Global Entrepreneurship Festival, El-Sahy emphasized that data protection and operational security are ongoing priorities. He said the company continues to allocate investments to these areas and cooperates with government bodies, including Egypt's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

He added that security-related investments are assessed according to operational requirements and service needs, rather than being determined by a publicly announced fixed budget.

Instead of introducing drone deliveries, Amazon Egypt is focusing on strengthening relationships with local partners and expanding its delivery and logistics network, supporting job creation in the process.

White Friday Campaign Includes 13 Financial Partners

Amazon Egypt has partnered with 13 banks and consumer financing platforms for its White Friday promotions, expanding the payment and installment solutions available to shoppers.

The partners include QNB Alahli, CIB, Banque Misr, Valu and Vodafone, alongside other participating institutions.

According to El-Sahy, the company does not grant exclusive arrangements to a single bank or financing provider. Its approach is to give customers access to a broad selection of payment methods, while remaining open to adding more partners in response to consumer demand.

These collaborations are intended to combine promotional discounts with flexible payment solutions suited to different customer preferences.

EGP 29 Billion Invested in Egypt Over 10 Years

Amazon has invested more than EGP 29 billion in Egypt over the past decade, generating over 60,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, El-Sahy stated.

More than 2,000 of those jobs are direct positions within the company. Its wider economic contribution also includes local merchants, distributors and businesses that form part of its operating network.

El-Sahy pointed to Amazon Now, launched last year, as an example of the company's efforts to deepen cooperation with Egyptian distributors and farms, helping agricultural goods reach consumers through its platform.

The company is also working to support entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized businesses through various partnerships. Its collaboration with Shark Tank Egypt has entered its third consecutive year, creating further opportunities to engage with startups and emerging ventures.

Artificial Intelligence Strengthens White Friday Operations

Preparations for White Friday began several months ahead of the campaign, with Amazon Egypt upgrading its logistics centers and using artificial intelligence to streamline operations and prepare for customer demand nationwide.

El-Sahy said this early planning enables the company to offer popular products at competitive prices and respond more effectively to seasonal demand and possible operational pressures.

He noted that Amazon does not establish a fixed sales target for White Friday. Instead, the company prioritizes customer satisfaction and the availability of products shoppers need.

El-Sahy added that the campaign's performance is assessed primarily by how effectively Amazon fulfills orders and meets customer expectations, rather than by sales figures or year-on-year growth alone.
