Electric Supercar Crushes Bugatti and Breaks 500 km/h Barrier.. An Egyptian Owns the 12th Global Edition
In a historic milestone that has sent shockwaves through the supercar world, the all-electric Yangwang U9 Xtreme—under Chinese automaker BYD—shattered the world speed record by hitting 503.17 km/h. This makes it officially the first car to break the 500 km/h threshold and claim the title of the fastest car in the world.
Abu Dhabi Speed Trials and International Record Recognition
This extraordinary feat was achieved on November 1, 2026, during a speed trial on Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road (E11) in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi, piloted by German race driver Marc Basseng.
The achievement received official recognition from the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), alongside two new Guinness World Records for the highest speed achieved by a production car and an electric production car in a single direction. This performance eclipsed the vehicle's previous speed record set in Germany (496.22 km/h) and surpassed the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ record of 490.48 km/h.
Cutting-Edge Technology Redefining Speed
This electric icon is powered by a formidable powertrain featuring four independent electric motors delivering a combined output of over 3,000 horsepower, backed by an advanced 1200V electrical architecture. Intelligent control systems precisely distribute power and manage aerodynamics and stability required at ultra-high speeds exceeding 500 km/h.
The 12th Global Edition—First in the Middle East—Resides in Egypt
On a related note, this rare supercar lineup has made its entry into the Arab region and Africa. Egyptian businessman Dr. Islam Nasrallah (Chairman of Mega Trust Group) owns the 12th edition globally out of a limited production run of just 30 units worldwide, making it the very first model of its kind in the Middle East and Africa.
This milestone highlights how global EV competition has evolved beyond battery efficiency and driving range into a direct showdown of top speed, raw power, and performance against legendary supercar manufacturers like Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Bugatti.
