DIFC Opens Innovation Ecosystem to 6,000 Japanese Startups Through New Partnership

Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) has announced a new partnership that will give up to 6,000 Japanese startups direct access to its innovation ecosystem, creating further opportunities for international collaboration, investment and market expansion.

The announcement was made on the second day of the inaugural Dubai Future of Finance Week, alongside the centre's plans to introduce the “Dubai FinTech Stack” initiative and the release of its “Digital Economy 2.0” report. The report forecasts that the global fintech market will reach $1.5 trillion by 2030.

DIFC's Innovation Ecosystem Expands

Arif Amiri, Chief Executive Officer of DIFC Authority, said the number of companies operating in artificial intelligence, financial technology and innovation within the centre had exceeded 2,000, marking another milestone in the ecosystem's growth.

He noted that DIFC launched its vision in 2016, followed by the establishment of its FinTech Accelerator in 2017 with 11 startups. The centre has since developed into an integrated ecosystem bringing together innovative companies, financial institutions, investors and specialised talent.

Amiri said the partnership with Japanese startups would strengthen connections between international markets and create opportunities for investment, cooperation and knowledge exchange. He added that DIFC is also working to develop new economic corridors with emerging markets and countries across the Global South.

He stressed that the centre's ambitions extend beyond attracting startups to providing the regulatory environment, infrastructure, capital and partnerships needed to help them grow and compete internationally.

Dubai FinTech Stack to Support Startup Growth

DIFC plans to launch the “Dubai FinTech Stack”, an initiative designed to provide startups with essential business capabilities and services.

These include customer onboarding, payments, risk management, financial security and the integration of artificial intelligence applications. The initiative aims to accelerate the development of innovative solutions and help startups turn them into scalable commercial ventures.

Digital Economy Report Forecasts $1.5 Trillion FinTech Market

The summit also saw the launch of the “Digital Economy 2.0” report, prepared by DIFC in collaboration with research partner Asia House and presented by Michael Lawrence, the organisation's CEO.

The report projects global technology spending of $5.6 trillion in 2026 and estimates that artificial intelligence could contribute $22.3 trillion to the global economy by 2030. It also forecasts that the global fintech market will reach $1.5 trillion by the same year.

The report highlighted the importance of capital, specialised talent and forward-looking regulatory frameworks in supporting digital economic growth, while positioning Dubai as a platform for developing financial technologies, AI-powered services and advanced financial infrastructure.

Sustainability and Skills Development Initiatives

During the event, DIFC announced that the 29 founding partners of its “One Million Learners” initiative had reached more than 130,000 learners in 2026.

Launched in May 2025, the initiative aims to equip one million people with knowledge and skills in sustainability and sustainable finance by 2030.

DIFC is also developing a “Comprehensive Impact Framework” with a specialised consultancy holding B Corporation certification. The framework is intended to measure the initiative's economic, social, environmental and governance outcomes and establish unified indicators for data collection, impact assessment and reporting.

Alya Al Zarouni, Chief Operating Officer of DIFC Authority, said sustainability had become a key factor in strengthening the competitiveness of financial institutions, adding that the next phase would focus on measuring the initiative's tangible outcomes and value.

Space Technology and AI Applications

DIFC's Innovation Hub also presented progress on its “Space Labs for Earth” platform, developed in partnership with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre to use space data and artificial intelligence to address challenges across the public and private sectors.

The platform's first programme, the “Space Geospatial Accelerator”, developed in cooperation with Realm Insurance, received 73 applications from 24 countries and connected international startups with five UAE-based public- and private-sector organisations.

These organisations include Buro Happold, Dubai Civil Defence, FADA, part of EDGE Group, Liva Insurance and the National Maritime Navigation Centre.

The participating entities are developing pilot projects to test solutions in maritime safety, insurance, urban environments and public safety, with the aim of turning space-related innovations into scalable commercial applications.

Dubai Future of Finance Week continues through November 6, bringing together financial-sector leaders, investors and international experts to discuss banking excellence, Islamic finance, family wealth management, asset tokenisation and digital assets.
