Egyptian Tech Startups Eye Global Investors and Markets at Web Summit Lisbon 2026

Egyptian technology startups are preparing to use Web Summit Lisbon 2026 as a platform to attract international investors, secure commercial partnerships and accelerate their entry into overseas markets.

A survey conducted by the Digital Economy and Technology Division of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce found that participating companies have funding targets ranging from $150,000 to $5 million. Their priorities vary according to business maturity, sector and growth strategy, with some seeking early-stage capital and others looking to finance wider market expansion.

Funding Priorities Extend from Product Development to Global Growth

For companies seeking investment, the expected proceeds are intended to finance product development, research and development, artificial intelligence capabilities and recruitment.

The funding will also support geographic expansion and increased sales and marketing activity.

While some startups are pursuing pre-seed and seed financing, others are focused on growth and expansion in Egypt, Europe and the Middle East. Not all participants are seeking capital, as some intend to prioritize revenue growth, strategic alliances or business accelerator programmes.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE Among Key Target Destinations

The survey identified the Gulf as one of the most important regions for Egyptian companies seeking to expand internationally, with Saudi Arabia and the UAE among their leading target markets.

The companies also named several European destinations, including the UK, France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Romania and Portugal.

Their wider market interests include North Africa, other African countries, the MENA region and the Levant, as well as India, North America, Australia and the Philippines.

Beyond market entry, companies are looking to connect with investors, distributors and strategic partners, attract new customers, sign international agreements and test their solutions with new audiences.

Broad Technology Portfolio Highlights Egyptian Startup Ecosystem

The participating companies represent a wide range of technology fields, with AI-related solutions covering intelligent agents, data analysis, deepfake detection and automation.

The portfolio also includes fintech services, payment and remittance solutions, and financial products designed for small and medium-sized businesses.

Healthtech is another area of activity, with applications for medical service management, clinical decision support, diagnostics and digital care.

Other solutions cover digital learning, business transformation, sales and distribution, supply chain operations, warehouse management, real estate, industrial automation, freelance work, skills verification, recruitment and electronic payments.

Some companies are also developing services for Arabic-language content, greater technology accessibility for people with disabilities, sustainability and transportation.

Companies Focus on Measurable Commercial Outcomes

The survey indicates that participating startups will evaluate their performance based on the business opportunities generated by the summit, not merely the number of meetings held.

Key indicators include securing qualified discussions with investors and prospective customers, converting negotiations into commercial agreements and partnerships, advancing funding rounds, and moving proof-of-concept projects into real-world implementation.

The expected results are projected to emerge over the 12 months following the event, including investment closures, new business partnerships, entry into additional markets, overseas contracts and accelerated product development.

ITIDA and Industry Bodies Help Facilitate Participation

Participating companies pointed to the contribution of the Digital Economy and Technology Division and supporting organizations, particularly ITIDA, in facilitating Egypt's presence at the summit.

Their support includes assistance related to the Egyptian pavilion, logistical arrangements and participation procedures, while also helping companies build credibility and establish connections with international business stakeholders.

Khalil Hassan Khalil Calls for Tailored Support and Follow-up

Khalil Hassan Khalil, Head of the Digital Economy and Technology Division at the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, said the survey was designed to capture the actual priorities of Egyptian participants and identify their financing, commercial and international expansion needs.

He said the findings would help shape support programmes around the different requirements of each company, whether through investor matchmaking, meetings with prospective clients and partners, or introductions to influential organizations in target markets.

Khalil noted that the Egyptian delegation's participation should not be measured only by its presence during the event. Instead, its impact should be assessed through continued follow-up on meetings, business opportunities converted into contracts or partnerships, and progress achieved in fundraising and international expansion.
