  • 24-karat gold: EGP 7,017 per gram.
  • 21-karat gold: EGP 6,140 per gram.
  • 18-karat gold: EGP 5,263 per gram.

Gold Demand Faces Pressure as Purchases Decline

The steady prices came alongside a notable slowdown in Egyptian gold buying. Purchases reached 9.7 tonnes in the third quarter of 2026, the lowest quarterly total in five years, based on figures attributed to the World Gold Council.

The volume represented a 12.6% decrease from the 11.1 tonnes recorded in the second quarter of 2026. It was also 3% lower than the 10 tonnes reported in the same quarter of 2025.

The decline reflects mounting pressure on consumer demand, as households contend with reduced purchasing power and higher living costs. Gold, however, continues to serve as a savings option and a potential hedge against economic uncertainty for some consumers.
