Egypt's telecommunications and technology sector has witnessed an unprecedented qualitative shift, aligning with the presidential initiative "Egypt Makes Electronics." The state has successfully accelerated local production to cover a massive share of market needs and close the import gap.

Accelerated Growth in Local Production and Creating Thousands of Jobs

In televised statements, Mohamed Ibrahim, Vice President and Official Spokesperson of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA), highlighted that the local manufacturing share surged significantly to 50%, compared to only around 10% two years ago. This comes at a time when the Egyptian market's annual consumption exceeds 20 million mobile phones.

He added that the state has succeeded in attracting 15 global brands to manufacture mobile phones and their accessories, spread across more than 10 major operating factories in Egypt, currently employing nearly 15,000 workers.

Future Goals: Deepening Local Content and Targeting Exports

Ibrahim emphasized that the upcoming period aims to increase the local component percentage in mobile phone manufacturing to 70% by the end of this year. The objective extends beyond satisfying local market demand to focus heavily on exporting locally manufactured phones to foreign markets, backed by a strong commitment to high quality standards and competitive pricing
