SciShield has launched Coverage Analyzer, the company’s first rApp developed for Ericsson Intelligent Automation Platform, using artificial intelligence to analyze mobile network coverage and identify issues that could affect service quality and customer experience.

The application continuously processes network data at scale and converts technical information into clear, actionable indicators. This enables engineering teams to identify the location of coverage problems and determine which issues should be addressed first, reducing reliance on time-consuming drive tests and manual analysis.

Coverage Analyzer is designed to detect three main types of coverage problems. These include cells whose signals extend beyond their intended coverage areas and may cause interference with neighboring cells, cells that fail to cover their designated geographic areas completely, and locations experiencing no coverage or weak signal strength.

Mustafa Issa, CEO of SciShield, said the launch of the company’s first rApp marks an important step in developing advanced network operations solutions as the telecommunications industry increasingly moves toward open, programmable platforms and AI-powered applications.

He explained that building the application on Ericsson’s platform is intended to turn AI capabilities into practical tools that address the everyday challenges faced by telecom operators and their customers.

Mahmoud Nour, Senior Director of Intelligence and Digital Analytics at SciShield, said network coverage optimization has traditionally depended heavily on engineering expertise and manual analysis. The company therefore sought to incorporate this expertise into an AI-driven model capable of continuously analyzing networks on a cell-by-cell basis and at a scale that would be difficult to achieve through manual methods alone.

According to Nour, Coverage Analyzer enables engineering teams to pinpoint the cell responsible for a problem, identify the nature of the issue and determine its location, providing a more accurate starting point for network optimization efforts. Its direct operation on Ericsson’s platform also allows analysis results to be incorporated into network automation and performance-enhancement workflows.

Khaled Taher, Director of Product Management at SciShield, noted that telecom operators face a challenge that goes beyond collecting coverage data across their networks. The greater challenge is turning that data into actionable indicators and prioritizing issues according to their potential impact on network performance.

Coverage Analyzer is designed to help engineering teams focus their efforts on the most impactful coverage problems, supporting improved network performance while making analysis and remediation processes more efficient.

SciShield expects these capabilities to accelerate the transition from detecting coverage problems to implementing corrective actions. This could contribute to more consistent service, broader coverage, improved data transmission rates and a better experience for mobile network users.
