Orange Egypt Managing Director and CEO Hesham Mahran has been named to Forbes Middle East’s 2026 Sustainability Leaders list for the second consecutive year, recognizing the company’s efforts to expand renewable energy use, promote the circular economy and reduce electronic waste.

The recognition comes as Orange Egypt integrates environmental considerations into its operations while developing telecommunications infrastructure and expanding digital services. The company aims to improve resource efficiency and advance its long-term environmental goals.

Renewable Energy and Carbon Neutrality

Renewable energy accounts for approximately 44% of Orange Egypt’s electricity needs. The company is also expanding solar power use at network sites and technical facilities to reduce reliance on conventional energy sources and lower its operational carbon footprint.

Orange Egypt aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 through greater adoption of renewable energy, improved energy efficiency and more sustainable operating practices, in line with growing demand across the telecommunications and technology sectors.

Electronics Recycling and the Circular Economy

The company continues to operate a program to collect, refurbish and recycle electronic devices, extending their useful life, reducing e-waste and recovering reusable materials and components.

Orange Egypt has collected more than 3,600 devices through over 40 stores for recycling and refurbishment. Sales of refurbished devices exceeded 2,000 units by the end of 2025, reflecting the program’s expansion and the increased reuse of electronic equipment.

The initiative also supports access to digital education. Orange Egypt has established computer labs equipped with refurbished devices in community schools in Upper Egypt, helping students access digital learning tools and making better use of available technology resources.

Encouraging Youth Innovation

Orange Egypt also supports youth-led sustainability innovation through its participation in the One Circle ICT Reboot Ideathon, which encourages young Egyptians to develop solutions based on circular economy principles.

The initiative has contributed to the development of more than 100 innovative solutions, promoting reuse and the application of technology to environmental challenges while encouraging more sustainable approaches to managing resources and electronic devices.

These initiatives reflect the company’s approach to linking digital transformation with environmental and social responsibility through resource efficiency, education and innovation.

Hesham Mahran’s Career at Orange Egypt

Mahran joined Orange Egypt when the company was established in 1998 and became its managing director and CEO in 2025.

His second consecutive appearance on Forbes Middle East’s Sustainability Leaders list comes as sustainability becomes increasingly important to telecommunications companies. Rising demand for digital services is also increasing the sector’s energy requirements and need for technical infrastructure.

Through its renewable energy initiatives, circular economy programs, device refurbishment efforts and youth engagement, Orange Egypt continues to pursue more sustainable operations, reduce the environmental impact of technology and broaden the community benefits of digital solutions.
