Central Bank of Egypt Issues EGP 130 Billion in Treasury Bills to Support State Budget
Details of the New Treasury Bills Issuance
The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) is issuing Treasury bills today, Monday, with a total value of EGP 130 billion, in full coordination with the Ministry of Finance. These issuances are part of short-term financial instruments—ranging from 3 months to one year—designed to cover the state's financing requirements.
Issuance Breakdown and Maturity Periods
The total amount is divided across two main issuances to meet market and investor needs:
First Issuance: Valued at EGP 50 billion with a maturity of 91 days.
Second Issuance: Valued at EGP 80 billion with a maturity of 273 days.
Interest Rate Freeze and Debt Management Delegation
This issuance follows the Monetary Policy Committee's (MPC) decision to keep key interest rates unchanged (at 19.00% for deposit and 20.00% for lending). It is worth noting that the Ministry of Finance delegates the management of government debt issuances to the Central Bank throughout the fiscal year, with proceeds directed toward funding the state general budget.
