Egypt Planning Minister Meets LinkedIn to Identify Future Jobs and Address Skills Gaps
Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Ahmed Rostom, has met with Firas Abu Hamza, LinkedIn’s Head of Government for the Middle East and North Africa, to discuss strengthening cooperation on labor-market forecasting and identifying the skills most in demand.
The discussions focused on using big data and advanced analytics to help align Egypt’s human capital development policies with changing global economic and technological trends.
AI Adoption Is Reshaping Future Workforce Needs
During the meeting, Rostom stressed that rapid changes in the global economy require continuous improvements in skills development to ensure that Egypt’s workforce is prepared for future job requirements.
He noted that the growing adoption of artificial intelligence applications and digital technologies is creating new opportunities in the labor market while increasing demand for specialized skills and professional competencies.
The minister also emphasized the importance of directing training and skills-development initiatives toward economic sectors with greater potential to generate quality, sustainable employment.
Such efforts aim to bridge the gap between job seekers’ capabilities and employers’ actual requirements, strengthen workforce competencies and improve the international competitiveness of Egyptian professionals.
LinkedIn Data to Help Identify Skills Gaps
The meeting also examined practical ways to use LinkedIn’s databases and advanced analytics alongside Egypt’s national data and statistics.
The proposed approach would support the development of a detailed map of skills gaps and identify the specializations most sought after by employers. These insights could provide policymakers with additional tools for workforce planning and the design of targeted training programs.
By combining professional-platform data with national statistics, the cooperation aims to provide a clearer picture of employment trends and evolving labor-market requirements.
LinkedIn Highlights Its Presence in Egypt
Firas Abu Hamza noted that Egypt represents a significant market for LinkedIn, with approximately 14 million users, including professionals, young people and companies.
He reaffirmed the company’s willingness to use its analytical capabilities to support the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development in understanding recruitment trends and identifying priority economic sectors.
The proposed cooperation is intended to contribute to a more flexible workforce-development system capable of responding to future economic and technological challenges while helping Egyptian talent meet changing employer needs.
