As the world marks World Post Day on October 9, Egypt Post is highlighting its transformation from a traditional postal service into a nationwide provider of financial, government, and digital solutions. Established in 1865, the institution has spent 160 years connecting communities, supporting public services, and linking Egypt to the international postal network.

This year’s World Post Day theme, “One Postal Network, Infinite Possibilities,” reflects the organization’s focus on expanding access and using technology to make services more efficient and convenient for customers.

A Nationwide Network Reaching 4,650 Service Points

Egypt Post operates 4,650 outlets, including post offices, kiosks, and mobile units. Its service network also covers government service complexes in villages participating in the Decent Life initiative, university campuses, and various institutions.

The network serves customers in major cities as well as rural and underserved communities. While post offices provide services across all governorates, kiosks and mobile units help bring services closer to residents, particularly during busy periods, while easing pressure on traditional branches.

Expanding Beyond Traditional Postal Services

As part of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s efforts to implement the Digital Egypt strategy, Egypt Post has become an important channel for delivering public services and advancing financial inclusion.

Its offerings include pension disbursements, microfinance, and social solidarity programs. Customers can also access notarization and real estate registration services, consular document certification, and court-notice delivery and legal recording.

The institution additionally handles military service and commercial registry documents, manages official correspondence for regulatory authorities, and supports national government projects.

One example is the Government Services Card, which Egypt Post prints, issues, and delivers. The card is linked to Egypt Post accounts to help ensure subsidies reach their intended beneficiaries.

Modern Facilities and Digital Solutions

Modernization efforts are reshaping Egypt Post’s branches through infrastructure upgrades and the adoption of updated equipment, operating systems, and networks. These improvements aim to increase efficiency, accelerate transactions, and provide a better customer experience.

The program also includes renovating branch interiors and exteriors, with particular attention to historic post offices. The objective is to preserve their architectural heritage while updating their appearance and facilities.

In 2023, Egypt Post introduced the country’s first Drive-Thru post office in Nasr City, enabling customers to complete transactions without getting out of their cars.

The organization has also established a digital printing center at its Nasr City printing facility. Equipped with inkjet technology, the center serves public and private institutions and produces payment cards and postage stamps.

Digital services are another focus. Bareedi, an electronic registered-mail and digital-postbox service designed for secure correspondence with legal standing, is used by organizations to exchange documents securely.

Egypt Post’s other offerings include e-commerce, financial services, and investment applications, along with express delivery, smart parcel lockers, international money transfers, and a loyalty program that promotes electronic payments.

Strengthening Digital Security and Environmental Performance

With more transactions taking place digitally, Egypt Post emphasizes cybersecurity and the protection of customer information. The institution follows international best practices to safeguard personal data and secure financial and digital transactions.

Its modernization strategy also includes environmental considerations. In 2023, the design and development of the historic Aswan Post Office received Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) certification from Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), in cooperation with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), in recognition of sustainability, environmental protection, and energy-saving practices.

International Cooperation and Industry Recognition

Egypt was among the founding members of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the United Nations agency responsible for establishing international mail-exchange rules and supporting cooperation across the global postal network.

Through the UPU, Egypt Post collaborates with postal organizations worldwide, exchanging expertise and applying international standards across postal, financial, and digital services.

The organization has also received international recognition, including the EMS Cooperative Customer Care Award from the UPU for maintaining quality standards and following international procedures for inquiries and deliveries.

In 2025, Egypt Post received certification from Uptime Institute for the design of its data centers in Maadi and Smart Village. According to the information released by the organization, this made it the first organization in Egypt, the first postal operator in the Middle East and Africa, and the second worldwide to receive the certification.

Preserving Postal Heritage for Future Generations

While investing in new technologies, Egypt Post continues to preserve its historical legacy. Egypt became the first Arab and African country to issue a postage stamp in 1866, and commemorative stamps remain a way to document important events and milestones in the country’s history.

Today’s stamps combine high-quality printing with advanced security features and QR codes that provide additional information about each issue.

The Egyptian Postal Museum plays a central role in preserving this heritage. Its collections include rare artifacts documenting the development of postal services and stamps in Egypt. The museum also hosts exhibitions and workshops for younger audiences and opens to visitors on special occasions, including World Post Day.

Accessing Egypt Post Services

Customers can explore services and track shipments through the official website, www.egyptpost.org, or use the Egypt Post mobile application on Android and iOS devices. For inquiries and complaints, the organization can be reached through its hotline at 16789.

Its extensive branch network across Egypt’s governorates remains a key access point for customers who prefer in-person services.

As Egypt Post celebrates 160 years of operation, its strategy combines nationwide accessibility and a long-established public service role with digital innovation, stronger security, and sustainable practices—supporting its continued evolution in a rapidly changing communications landscape.
