Opening Doors for Developers to Build Custom Smart Hardware

Meta has made its source code and Software Development Kits (SDKs) publicly available, enabling anyone to build personal hardware powered by the "Muse" AI agent. This open-source initiative aims to empower developers and hobbyists to use off-the-shelf electronic boards—such as ESP32 and Raspberry Pi—to create innovative devices, similar to the Tamagotchi-inspired "Muse Spark" showcased by Meta.

Diverse Device Ideas Powered by "Muse"

Meta shared several project concepts that users can build, including:

Pocket-Sized Device: Built around an ESP32-S3 board with a 1.75-inch AMOLED display, closely resembling Meta’s "Muse Charm."

TV HDMI Dongle: Connects to televisions to run apps and allow Muse to interact directly with the screen.

Remote Controls & E-Ink Displays: Large color E-Ink screens designed for reading and interaction similar to compact tablets.

Muse Home Link: A circular, USB-like drive designed for smart home control. Meta announced it is manufacturing 5,000 units to distribute free to new subscribers on a first-come, first-served basis.

Official Warnings: Experimentation Is For Tech Enthusiasts Only

Meta cautioned that the "Muse Gadgets" project is not intended for average consumers, as connecting an AI agent to a home network and smart devices requires technical caution. The company explicitly warned that experimenting could cause board damage, void warranties, trigger power issues, or result in financial loss, emphasizing that users take on these risks at their own discretion.

Enthusiastic Response from the Developer Community

Tech enthusiasts have already started taking advantage of the released tools. Developer Federico Viticci successfully transformed the ESP-based "Xteink" e-reader into a portable Muse display. This reflects Meta’s broader vision of transitioning AI from simple chatbots into interactive agents operating in the physical world.
