Reduction of Free Models Starting October 9

Google has decided to restructure its Gemini AI service plans starting October 9, 2026. Under the new update, free personal account holders will lose access to the Flash and Pro models, restricting their usage entirely to the Flash-Lite model.

Gradual Adjustments to Paid Subscription Plans

The changes are not limited to free accounts; Google AI Plus subscribers will lose access to the Pro model while retaining access to Flash-Lite and Flash. Meanwhile, subscribers to the Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra plans will continue to have access to all three models without any reduction.

Expanding Deep Think Feature to Boost Reasoning

On the other hand, Google has made the Deep Think feature available to Google AI Pro subscribers after previously being exclusive to the Ultra plan. This feature aims to enable the model to handle complex tasks through high-efficiency parallel reasoning techniques.

Competition with the Next Generation of AI

This move follows the launch of the Gemini 4 Argon model, through which Google aims to compete against strong market rivals such as GPT-6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5, while continuing to deeply integrate its technology across its various applications.
