UAE-based fintech Remi, founded by Ahmed Amer and Mohamed Abdo, has joined the sixth cohort of the Visa Africa FinTech Accelerator, launched in Accra, Ghana, alongside 21 fintech companies from nine African countries operating across 24 markets.

Remi Builds Cross-Border Settlement Infrastructure

Remi develops unified infrastructure for global money movement and settlement, connecting traditional financial infrastructure with digital assets while focusing on emerging markets.

Its network combines infrastructure, regulatory capabilities and liquidity to support faster, transparent and compliant cross-border money movement. Banks, financial institutions, foreign exchange companies, money transfer providers and digital-asset custodians can use the network for settlement and liquidity operations.

Remittance applications, payroll platforms, digital marketplaces, business-to-business payment services and embedded finance providers can connect to the network through a single API.

Traditional Currency and Stablecoin Rails

Remi’s infrastructure combines traditional currency and stablecoin rails with liquidity management, money transfer and digital-asset services. Cross-border transactions can be routed through banking, local and regulated digital-asset channels depending on market conditions and the licensed entities involved.

The company aims to reduce reliance on prefunded accounts and multiple market integrations by using one interface for routing, liquidity and execution. Customer verification, anti-money laundering controls and transaction screening are also incorporated into its operating infrastructure.

Remi supports international transfers, payroll, business payments and embedded finance, alongside digital-asset services. The company says its network includes more than 40 instant settlement corridors, with 24/7 transaction capabilities depending on the markets and participating entities.

Visa Accelerator Expands African FinTech Network

The sixth cohort includes companies from Niger, Togo and Seychelles for the first time, alongside startups from other African countries. Participating companies operate across areas including stablecoins, agent-based commerce, sustainable finance, payments and financial infrastructure.

The launch brought participating startups into contact with organizations across Ghana’s and Africa’s fintech ecosystem, including Onafriq, EY Ghana, Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited, GCB Bank PLC, Societe Generale Ghana and MEST Africa.

Three-Month Hybrid Program

The Visa Africa FinTech Accelerator runs for three months under a hybrid model, featuring an introductory week, 10 weeks of specialized online sessions, an investor week and a Demo Day connecting startups with investors and venture capital funds.

The program targets Seed to Series A startups with a working initial product. Its focus areas include emerging payment flows, embedded finance, merchant and SME enablement, payments infrastructure, the future of financial services, and sustainable and inclusive finance.

Participants receive training in product design, marketing, finance and sales, as well as access to experts, partners and service providers. Visa also offers potential funding opportunities from Visa or Plug and Play and investors participating in Demo Day.
