Swedish Private Equity Firm EQT Launches Middle East Platform, Opens Abu Dhabi Office
Swedish private equity firm EQT announced the launch of its Middle East platform on Wednesday, coinciding with the opening of a new office in Abu Dhabi. The move establishes an active on-the-ground presence in the Gulf region, joining a growing wave of global investment firms expanding their footprint in the area over recent years.
In a statement, the company said the platform aims to deepen support for its existing portfolio companies, strengthen institutional relationships across the region, and pursue new investment opportunities.
**Gulf Investment Platform**
The platform is led by Jimmy Mahtani, who has been appointed head of the firm's operations in the Gulf, while Smiyet Belrhiti, Head of EQT’s Middle East business, will lead the new office located in Abu Dhabi's financial center.
The Abu Dhabi office will house a dedicated team covering private capital and infrastructure investments, alongside capital raising and commercial operations.
EQT manages $389 billion in assets. Its portfolio companies with an active presence in the Gulf region include Nord Anglia Education.
