Egypt’s Central Bank Offers EGP 25 Billion in Treasury Bonds

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) is offering EGP 25 billion worth of Treasury bonds through its official website today, Monday, September 21, 2026. The offering is divided into two tranches, comprising fixed-rate and floating-rate bonds.

The fixed-rate Treasury bonds are valued at EGP 15 billion with a three-year maturity. Interest will be paid semi-annually, with the bonds scheduled to mature on September 15, 2029.

The second tranche consists of floating-rate Treasury bonds worth EGP 10 billion, with a maturity of 1.5 years. Interest will also be paid semi-annually, and the bonds are scheduled to mature on March 15, 2028.

At its latest meeting, the CBE’s Monetary Policy Committee decided to keep its key interest rates unchanged. Accordingly, the overnight deposit rate, overnight lending rate, and the CBE’s main operation rate remained at 19.00%, 20.00%, and 19.50%, respectively. The credit and discount rate was also maintained at 19.50%.

The Ministry of Finance authorizes the CBE to manage its Treasury bill and bond offerings denominated in Egyptian pounds throughout the fiscal year. The proceeds are used to finance expenditures included in the state’s current general budget.
