Hany Salam: We Target $1.291 Billion in Spinning and Textile Exports by Year-End
The Export Council for Spinning and Textiles, headed by Engineer Hany Salam, announced that the sector's exports reached approximately $617 million from January through July 2026, despite the challenges facing global trade as a result of developments in the Middle East.
Engineer Hany Salam revealed the sector's export target for 2026, noting that the council aims to reach $1.291 billion, representing a targeted increase of 10% compared with last year's performance.
Salam said that exports during the first seven months of the year accounted for approximately 48% of the council's annual target, as part of its ambitious plan to boost the sector's export performance.
Data from the Export Council for Spinning and Textiles showed a diverse range of products among Egypt's leading exports. These included woven fabrics made from synthetic filaments, denim fabrics, woven fabrics made from man-made fibers, and yarns made from synthetic fibers.
The list also included cotton yarn, woven cotton fabrics, denim fabrics, wool and fine animal hair, as well as woven linen fabrics.
According to council data, June 2026 recorded the highest monthly export value since the beginning of the year, with exports reaching approximately $98 million, followed by April with around $93 million, and March with $92 million.
The Export Council for Spinning and Textiles noted that Turkey remains the sector's leading export market, with exports reaching approximately $186 million during the first seven months of 2026. Italy ranked second, accounting for around 10% of total sector exports, followed by Algeria with a share of approximately 9%.
At the same time, the council recorded notable growth in the sector's exports to several markets during the first seven months of 2026. Syria ranked first in terms of export growth, with exports increasing by approximately 75%, followed by Brazil and India, where exports grew by 47% each.
Exports to China increased by 36%, while exports to the United States rose by 30%. Exports to Morocco and Romania each increased by 25%, while exports to Jordan grew by 23% and those to Vietnam by 20%. Meanwhile, exports to Tunisia and the United Kingdom each increased by 17%.
