World Bank Highlights Positive Impact of Egypt’s New Cities on Urban and Economic Growth
A World Bank report has highlighted several positive outcomes from Egypt’s experience with developing new cities, noting their role in easing pressure on densely populated urban areas and limiting the expansion of cities onto agricultural land.
The report also pointed to the new cities’ contribution to creating additional space for urban development and economic activity. Their economic performance has shown promising indicators, with labor productivity and wage levels exceeding the average recorded across Greater Cairo.
To strengthen the integration of these cities with major economic centers, Egypt has made significant investments in infrastructure and public transportation networks. These projects are designed to improve connectivity with Cairo and other key economic hubs.
Improved transport links are also helping residents and workers gain better access to jobs and essential services, while supporting population mobility and strengthening the integration of new cities into the wider urban economy of Greater Cairo.
