OpenAI Projects $278 Billion Cash Burn Between 2026 and 2030, Delays IPO

OpenAI expects to burn through approximately $278 billion in cash between 2026 and 2030 as it ramps up spending on computing capabilities and infrastructure, according to a report by the Financial Times on Friday.

These projections highlight OpenAI's funding needs at a time when the company is seeking to attract new investments.

Earlier this week, the Financial Times reported that the ChatGPT developer held talks with investors that could boost its valuation to around $1.2 trillion, in preparation for a potential stock market listing.

OpenAI Delays IPO

OpenAI confidentially filed for an initial public offering (IPO) in June, but CEO Sam Altman stated on Saturday that the company will not go public during 2026, citing concerns related to artificial intelligence safety.
