Meta Launches Muse on Mac With In-App AI Task Execution
Meta has launched its Muse AI assistant on Mac computers, expanding the service from phones and the web to desktops and enabling it to perform tasks directly within native applications with user permission.
Muse Connects With User Data and Apps
On Mac, Muse can interact with users’ files, messages, calendars, notes and email, allowing the assistant to carry out actions across different applications rather than simply answering questions or providing information.
Access to this data is optional. Users can decide which permissions to grant the assistant, while Muse asks for approval before carrying out actions considered sensitive.
Muse Expands as AI Agent Competition Accelerates
The Mac launch follows the release of Muse on phones and the web earlier in September. The app quickly gained traction and reached the top of the U.S. App Store rankings.
The move to computers highlights intensifying competition in the consumer AI agent market, as companies develop assistants designed to perform tasks on behalf of users instead of focusing only on text generation and information retrieval.
Meta is competing in the space with major AI companies as well as startups developing agents capable of carrying out a range of tasks across devices and applications.
The market has also seen a rapid rollout of new features, including voice capabilities, as companies seek to attract more users and establish AI agents as a new interface for interacting with computers and applications.
With its Mac version, Muse becomes more closely integrated with users’ digital environments, gaining access to a broad range of applications and data and carrying out actions within them after the required permissions and approvals are provided.
