Egypt-India Cooperation on AI, Digital Skills and ICT Investment
Egypt and India discussed expanding cooperation in artificial intelligence, digital capacity building, cybersecurity, innovation and entrepreneurship, while encouraging greater Indian investment in Egypt’s ICT sector, particularly outsourcing and electronics localization, during a meeting in Cairo on September 18, 2026.
Expanding Egypt-India ICT Cooperation
Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindi received Suresh K. Reddy, Ambassador of India to Egypt, to review existing cooperation and explore new areas for partnership.
The meeting highlighted cooperation under memoranda of understanding signed between the two countries, covering information technology, cybersecurity, digital capacity building, and training and qualification of specialists in information technology and electronics.
Hindi said Egypt-India cooperation in communications and information technology continues to expand, stressing the importance of building on existing partnerships, particularly in digital skills development and artificial intelligence.
He noted that Egypt’s strategic geographic location positions it as a gateway for Indian companies seeking to expand into African and Middle Eastern markets. He also pointed to Egypt’s broad pool of qualified young professionals across technology disciplines, creating opportunities to strengthen Indian investment in outsourcing and digital services exports.
India Seeks to Encourage Investment in Egypt
Reddy reaffirmed India’s interest in encouraging Indian companies to invest in Egypt. He said India is scheduled to host a global conference focused on mobile phone manufacturing next October.
The ambassador noted that India is the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer and has advanced capabilities in several modern industries and electronics. He also highlighted India’s strong investment in developing public and digital infrastructure, including the expansion of fiber-optic cable networks.
AI, Innovation and Digital Skills
The two sides discussed ongoing steps to advance cooperation frameworks in line with current technology priorities and expand partnerships between Egyptian and Indian institutions in training, digital capacity building, knowledge transfer and the exchange of expertise.
The meeting also addressed stronger private-sector cooperation to support entrepreneurship, innovation and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Discussions further covered expanding cooperation in artificial intelligence to include innovation, research and development, advanced skills development, expertise exchange and the responsible use of technology. The sides also discussed encouraging Egyptian companies and institutions to participate in specialized international events and exhibitions hosted by India.
The meeting was attended by Prakash Choudhary, Second Secretary for Economic and Trade Affairs at the Indian Embassy; Mohamed Shamroukh, CEO of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority; Ahmed El-Zaher, CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA); Mahmoud Badawy, Assistant Minister for Digital Transformation; Hoda Baraka, Advisor to the Minister for Technology Skills Development; Ambassador Khaled Taha, Advisor to the Minister for International Relations; Samah Aziz, Head of the Central Administration for International Relations; and several ministry officials.
