Egypt Turns to vivo to Bring AI and Digital Skills Training to Tourism Workers
Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has partnered with smartphone maker vivo to provide free digital training for tourism and antiquities workers, bringing skills ranging from artificial intelligence to professional photography onto the ministry’s online training platform.
Under a memorandum of understanding, vivo Mobile Communication Technology will provide a series of pre-recorded courses through the Egypt Tourism and Antiquities Platform for Training (EgTAP), allowing workers and other eligible participants to access the training remotely and at no cost.
The initiative puts technology skills alongside more traditional tourism training, reflecting how digital tools are becoming increasingly relevant to jobs that involve communicating with visitors, creating tourism content and promoting Egypt’s destinations and heritage.
AI, photography and English enter the tourism training mix
The courses will cover artificial intelligence, professional photography, photo editing and English language skills.
AI training will introduce participants to emerging tools and applications and explore how they can be used to improve productivity and working methods.
Photography and image-editing courses will focus on developing the ability to produce higher-quality visual and digital content — skills that have become increasingly important as tourists discover destinations through smartphones, social media and online travel platforms.
English-language training, meanwhile, will target communication skills relevant to dealing with international visitors.
The courses will be released gradually through EgTAP, allowing participants to access recorded material at different times rather than requiring attendance at conventional classroom sessions.
Technology companies move into workforce development
The agreement also represents an unusual extension of vivo’s role in Egypt beyond smartphones and consumer technology.
Instead of focusing the partnership on devices, the company will contribute training content and digital expertise to a government platform serving workers in one of Egypt’s most important economic sectors.
Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, said the cooperation represents another step toward digitizing training across the tourism and antiquities sectors and using private-sector technology expertise to provide more modern and diverse learning content.
He said developing human capabilities remains a central part of the ministry’s strategy, with digital platforms providing a way to make continuous learning available to a wider group of workers.
vivo said the partnership would help employees in the sector develop skills and gain access to digital tools that can be applied in the workplace as technology continues to change working practices.
EgTAP becomes the delivery platform
The agreement was signed by Dr. Mohamed Shaaban, Assistant to the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities and General Supervisor of EgTAP, and Wilson Wang, Marketing Director at vivo Mobile Communication Technology.
The signing was also attended by Dr. Soha Bahgat, Adviser to the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Training; Raghda Amer, Head of Public Relations and Communications at vivo; and Islam Adam, Brand Manager at vivo.
Using EgTAP as the distribution channel allows the ministry to move away from a training model limited by physical classrooms, locations and fixed schedules.
More significantly, the partnership shows how the skills required by tourism workers are expanding. AI tools, digital content creation and smartphone photography are increasingly becoming part of the same professional toolkit as language and customer communication skills, as the way destinations are marketed and experienced becomes more digital.
