Fawry and Al-Futtaim Bring Payments, Rewards and Buy Now Pay Later Into One Mall Ecosystem
Fawry and Al-Futtaim Group are taking a broader approach to digitizing retail at Cairo Festival City Mall, launching a partnership that will bring payments, loyalty rewards, personalized offers and flexible payment options into a single digital commerce ecosystem serving shoppers and participating retailers.
The partnership goes beyond introducing another payment method at the point of sale. Instead, the two companies plan to connect Fawry’s payments infrastructure with Al-Futtaim’s Blue digital platform, creating a system that follows customers across different stages of their shopping journey while giving retailers access to new tools for engagement and conversion.
Cairo Festival City Mall provides significant scale for testing the model. The destination attracts more than 18.5 million visitors annually and houses over 265 retail, dining and entertainment brands, giving the partnership access to a large customer base and a diverse mix of merchants.
Payments meet loyalty and customer data
At the center of the new ecosystem will be Blue, Al-Futtaim’s digital lifestyle and rewards platform.
Customers will be able to earn and redeem Blue points with participating retailers, receive personalized offers and take part in campaigns spanning shopping, dining and entertainment.
For retailers, the proposition extends beyond conventional loyalty programs. The platform is designed to generate customer insights that can help participating brands better understand purchasing behavior, improve engagement and encourage repeat visits.
Fawry will provide the payments layer supporting the ecosystem, allowing participating retailers to broaden the payment options available to shoppers and streamline transactions.
The Egyptian fintech company currently serves 55.4 million active customers through 364,600 payment acceptance points nationwide. Its platform processes 1.057 billion transactions, while the company reported total revenue of EGP 5.22 billion.
A four-payment option with no customer fees
Flexible payments will form another important part of the partnership.
Fawry and Al-Futtaim plan to introduce payment solutions developed specifically for Cairo Festival City Mall under the Blue umbrella, beginning with a “Pay in 4” option.
The service is expected to become available initially at a selected group of participating stores and will allow customers to divide purchases into four payments without additional customer fees.
The move brings a buy now, pay later-style experience directly into the mall’s wider loyalty and payments ecosystem rather than operating as a standalone financing option.
The program will be introduced in phases, with the companies planning to add more participating retailers and expand payment options as the partnership develops.
From processing transactions to building a commerce platform
Fawry CEO Ashraf Sabry said the future of commerce increasingly depends on connected ecosystems in which technology works across the different stages of the customer journey.
He said combining Fawry’s payments capabilities with Blue could provide a more integrated experience for customers and merchants, while helping retailers strengthen customer engagement and identify new opportunities for growth.
For Fawry, the partnership also illustrates how payment companies are moving beyond simply processing transactions. Payments can increasingly become the infrastructure connecting merchants with loyalty programs, customer data, offers and financing.
Al-Futtaim looks beyond technology as an add-on
Tarek Tantawy, CEO of Al-Futtaim Group Egypt, said Egypt’s consumer sector is undergoing a major transformation as adoption of digital solutions expands.
He argued that the next generation of retail destinations will be those that create genuinely integrated experiences rather than adding technology as a separate layer around the traditional shopping journey.
Under the new model, payments, rewards and personalization are intended to operate as interconnected components of the Cairo Festival City Mall experience.
Danny Karam, Managing Director of Marketing and Partnerships at Al-Futtaim Blue, said integrating Fawry’s payment capabilities with Blue would also expand the platform’s role across the wider Al-Futtaim ecosystem while giving participating retailers new ways to interact with customers.
Cairo Festival City becomes the first stage of a wider roadmap
The Cairo Festival City Mall rollout represents the first phase of a broader cooperation roadmap between Fawry and Al-Futtaim.
The companies expect to expand the number of retailers participating in the program and introduce additional payment options as the platform develops.
More importantly, the partnership points toward a wider transformation in physical retail, where the distinction between an in-store transaction and a digital transaction is becoming less relevant.
By combining payments, rewards, financing, customer engagement and data within the same ecosystem, Fawry and Al-Futtaim are effectively turning Cairo Festival City Mall into a test bed for a more connected model of digital commerce in Egypt.
