Etihad Airways and Etihad Rail Sign MoU to Explore Integrated Air-Rail Travel Across the UAE
Etihad Airways and Etihad Rail, the developer and operator of the UAE’s national railway network, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities for developing an integrated travel experience that combines air and rail transportation across the country.
The partnership, signed during Arabian Travel Market, brings together two major transportation networks in the UAE as part of a shared vision to enhance connectivity, support tourism growth, diversify the economy, and promote more sustainable transportation options.
Under the MoU, the two companies will explore several areas of cooperation aimed at simplifying travel and strengthening Abu Dhabi’s position as a gateway for visitors seeking to explore destinations across the UAE.
One of the key areas under consideration is improving connectivity between Zayed International Airport and Etihad Rail’s Mohammed Bin Zayed City Passenger Station through dedicated bus services. The proposed connection would facilitate passenger transfers between the airport and the national railway network, creating a more seamless journey across different modes of transportation.
The partnership will also explore integrated booking options combining flights and train journeys, as well as passenger services at railway stations, with the aim of enhancing the travel experience from the point of departure to the final destination.
Arik De, Chief Commercial and Revenue Officer at Etihad Airways, said the airline plays a key role in welcoming millions of visitors to Abu Dhabi each year. He added that the partnership with Etihad Rail reflects a shared ambition to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a global destination by exploring new ways to connect air travel with destinations across the UAE.
Azza Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of Operations at Etihad Rail, said the UAE continues to develop an integrated national transportation system that supports the country’s development goals and future ambitions.
She added that the partnership with Etihad Airways represents another step toward greater integration between the aviation and railway sectors, supporting tourism growth, economic diversification and sustainable development across the UAE.
