Saudi Arabia’s $5.3 Billion Deposit with Egypt’s Central Bank Due in October
Recent data released by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) in its External Position of the Egyptian Economy report revealed that a Saudi medium- and long-term deposit worth $5.3 billion is due for repayment in October 2026.
According to the CBE data, total liabilities related to the Saudi deposit are estimated at approximately $5.434 billion by the end of the repayment period in the second half of 2026. This includes the $5.3 billion principal amount, in addition to around $134.8 million in accrued interest.
The $5.3 billion Saudi deposit is part of the Central Bank of Egypt’s long-term Arab deposits, which total approximately $9.3 billion. These deposits include $5.3 billion from Saudi Arabia and $4 billion from Kuwait, according to CBE data.
The maturity of the Saudi deposit comes as Egypt continues to manage its external obligations while working to strengthen foreign currency resources through Egyptians’ remittances from abroad, tourism revenues, exports, and foreign direct investment
