FDC Summit to become independent non-profit organization in 2027, Tarek Shabaka says

The Future of Digital Countries Summit (FDC Summit) will move out from under the umbrella of MCS starting in 2027 and operate through an independent non-profit organization, according to Tarek Shabaka, who said the move is designed to preserve the summit’s original philosophy and expand its role in supporting the technology industry.

Speaking during FDC Summit 2026, Shabaka said the summit has reached a stage where greater institutional independence would allow it to work more broadly with government entities, technology companies and industry organizations, while remaining focused on developing the sector rather than operating as a conventional commercial event.

He said the new organization will focus on protecting and developing the technology ecosystem, transferring knowledge and connecting industry players with new opportunities, while providing a platform capable of generating ideas, partnerships and initiatives that can contribute to the sector’s long-term growth.

According to Shabaka, the planned entity will have a board bringing together prominent local and international figures, alongside experts with experience in technology, industry development and event organization.

The transition reflects the growing scale of FDC Summit and the organizers’ view that separating the initiative institutionally from MCS would give it greater flexibility to cooperate with a wider range of stakeholders and increase the chances of turning ideas emerging from the summit into sustainable initiatives.

Shabaka also pointed to a broader regional dimension for the initiative, highlighting Egypt’s potential to strengthen its position as a regional hub for major technology conferences and exhibitions.

The move would mark a significant shift in the development of FDC Summit, transforming it from an event operating under a corporate umbrella into an independent platform seeking a wider role in knowledge exchange, industry collaboration and technology-sector development across Egypt and the region.
